U.K. Stocks Rise to Halt Four-Day Drop as Shire, Rio Tinto Climb

U.K. stocks rose, snapping a four-day loss, amid gains in Rio Tinto Group and Shire Plc.

Rio Tinto gained 2.3 percent after the world’s second-biggest mining company said it plans to spend $2 billion in a share buyback and reported full-year profit that beat estimates. Anglo American Plc gained 3.7 percent. Shire jumped 4.6 percent after the maker of drugs for rare diseases forecast higher 2015 earnings.
