AFC Ajax NV Chief Financial Officer Jeroen Slop said FIFA’s ban on investors receiving player transfer fees could damage the Dutch soccer team’s chances of retaining players like former striker Luis Suarez.
Soccer’s ruling body has banned so-called third-party ownership from May 1. While TPO isn’t Ajax’s “cup of tea,” the wording in a circular sent to clubs in December also appears to eliminate the option of offering players a percentage of future transfer fees to persuade them to stay on, Slop told a soccer finance conference in Zurich.
