Madagascar Faces Triple Threat From Disasters as Hundreds Die

Madagascar is confronting a triple threat: an outbreak of the plague, drought-induced starvation and the aftermath of a tropical storm that have killed at least 250 people and forced tens of thousands more to flee their homes.
Making a difficult situation worse, the natural disasters have coincided with political upheaval in the Indian Ocean island nation. The government was thrown into disarray when the prime minister and cabinet quit last month after public protests over power cuts and declining living standards.
