Drought in South Africa’s main sugar- producing region may cost the industry about $81 million, a growers’ association said.

Losses may total 920 million rand amid output cuts of as much as 60 percent this season if some areas of the KwaZulu-Natal province don’t get enough rain, David Wayne, executive director at the South African Cane Growers’ Association, said by phone from Mount Edgecombe on Thursday.
