Pope Francis, who helped broker talks between the U.S. and Cuba and has delved into other politically contentious issues, will address Congress when he visits the U.S. in September, House Speaker John Boehner said.

He will speak to lawmakers on Sept. 24, according to Boehner. It will be the first time a religious leader who serves as a head of state has addressed both chambers in a joint meeting, according to the Office of the U.S. House Historian.
