President Barack Obama appeared today with the Dalai Lama at an annual prayer breakfast in Washington on Thursday, bucking a warning from the Chinese government.

Obama mentioned the Dalai Lama twice in his remarks at the 63rd National Prayer Breakfast, calling him “a powerful example of what it means to practice compassion and who inspires us to speak up for the freedom and dignity of all human beings.”
