Spanish opposition leader Pedro Sanchez is pitching his party as the “safe” alternative to Podemos, as he tries to recover ground lost to the anti-austerity group.

Sanchez said he aims to reboot the Spanish economy and fight inequality by improving the education system from kindergarten through to graduate school and lowering the cost of energy. He guaranteed to achieve those goals without rattling investors, a nod to Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias who has captured the public imagination in Spain with talk of renegotiating the public debt.
