Russian weapons sales soared 20 percent last year even as total deals at the world’s biggest 100 arms-producing companies fell for a third year, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
Arms sales by the top 100 companies declined 2 percent in 2013 in real terms to $402 billion, compared with a 3.9 percent drop in 2012, the research group said in its latest arms production report today. The pace of the decline slowed partly because of increased sales by Russian and other emerging suppliers, it said.
