Drone Dream Questioned as U.S. Companies Push Commercial Use

Drone technology like the package delivery bots envisioned by Amazon.com Inc. isn’t ready for widespread commercial use, an aeronautics scientist told U.S. lawmakers.
Small drones are unreliable and satellite navigation isn’t precise enough to guide them to people’s homes, said Nicholas Roy, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who helped design unmanned aircraft for Google Inc. The head of the Air Line Pilots Association also pointed to the risk of small drones crossing paths with passenger airplanes.
