Hong Kong police cleared a key pro-democracy protest site in Mong Kok, detaining student leaders and flooding the area with officers to try to prevent any resumption of street occupations.
Police were tonight stopping and searching people in the Nathan Road area and noting their identity-card numbers. Student leaders Joshua Wong and Lester Shum were earlier held, while seven police officers were arrested for an alleged assault on a protester on Oct. 15.
