Germany Rejects Investment Protection in EU-Canada Pact

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government is seeking changes to a European Union free trade accord with Canada as an EU delegation arrives in Ottawa to celebrate political agreement on the deal.
The Economy Ministry rejects the accord in its current form because of clauses allowing investors to bring a case before an arbitration tribunal against the country in which they have a disputed investment, spokesman Tobias Duenow told reporters in Berlin today. It’s also premature to say that the negotiations have been finalized, he said.
