Stuart Delery, the head of the U.S. Justice Department’s civil division, will take over law enforcement’s No. 3 position, tasking him with wrapping up the remaining investigations into banks’ mortgage operations in the run-up to the housing-market collapse.

Delery, 45, will become the acting associate attorney general, replacing Tony West, who is stepping down this month, the Justice Department said today in a statement.
