Out of the same Swiss valleys that give us the world's greatest watches comes a mechanical spaceship that plays rock n' roll classics without any electricity. Seriously. The MusicMachine 2 is the second of three collaborations between avant-garde horologist MB&F and mechanical music expert Reuge, and it takes a bit of explaining. Luckily, that's what we're here for.

The type of music box we're talking about here isn't a tinkly plastic contraption with a spinning ballerina inside; Reuge music boxes are hand crafted from hardwood, precious metals, and lacquer, and produce nuanced, room-filling sound. You might think that high-end mechanical music like this died when the iPod landed in our pockets, and you'd be mostly right.
