Burundi Vows Political Freedom for 2015 Elections Amid Criticism

Burundi said it’s allowing political dissent in the run up to next year’s elections amid rising concern that the government is cracking down on opposition groups.

An Amnesty International report accusing Burundi’s authorities of intimidating critics and failing to prevent politically motivated violence is untrue and an attempt to undermine the country’s reputation, government spokesman Philippe Nzobonariba told reporters yesterday in the capital, Bujumbura.
