Pollution in the Chinese capital averaged more than twice the national standard in 2013, Beijing’s environmental protection bureau said in a report.

The level of PM2.5, the small particles that pose the greatest risk to human health, averaged 89.5 micrograms per cubic meter last year, the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau said in a report, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. That’s more than twice the national standard of 35 over the year.
