Maurice Tchenio, founder of Paris-based Apax Partners SA, is stepping down after 39 years at the helm of the private equity firm, handing the reins to Eddie Misrahi.

Tchenio, 68, sold his controlling stake to partners as the firm is raising a 700 million-euro ($948 million) pool, the company said in an e-mailed statement today. Misrahi, a 19 year Apax veteran, becomes chairman and chief executive officer.
