The death of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah has propelled a younger generation of the ruling Al Saud family closer to power in the world’s top oil exporter.

King Salman, whose rule began with Abdullah’s death early on Friday, named his nephew Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, born in 1959, as deputy crown prince. That makes him second-in-line to the throne, behind Crown Prince Muqrin, 69.
