Caracas Streets Set for Rival Protests as Economy Struggles

Venezuela’s economic crisis is spilling into the streets of Caracas with an opposition march planned for Saturday following a pro-government rally a day earlier. The demonstrations come barely a year after a wave of protests led to the deaths of 43 people.

President Nicolas Maduro spoke for an hour at a government “March of the Undefeated” Friday afternoon in downtown Caracas, while the opposition plans to march in eastern Caracas to protest shortages of basic items and demand a change in government.
