China has detained one of its top spy chiefs for alleged corruption, the South China Morning Post reported, marking the highest-ranking intelligence officer nabbed in President Xi Jinping’s battle against graft.
Ma Jian served as the executive deputy minister of the Ministry of State Security and had close ties to Ling Jihua, the former top aide of retired president Hu Jintao who is also under official investigation, the paper said, citing unidentified people with direct knowledge of the situation.
