The American consumer said farewell to 2014 feeling the most confident since January 2007, indicating a strong start to the New Year for the world’s largest economy.

The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan final consumer sentiment index for December rose to 93.6 from 88.8 in November, according to data issued today. The group’s preliminary reading issued earlier this month was 93.8. The median forecast of 59 economists in a Bloomberg survey projected a reading of 93.5.
