Shire Said to Weigh Offer for NPS as It Revisits Deals

Shire Plc, looking to boost growth after its proposed sale to AbbVie Inc. collapsed, is considering a bid for NPS Pharmaceuticals Inc., people familiar with the matter said.
Shire is interested in Bedminster, New Jersey-based NPS as a way to expand in rare diseases such as gastrointestinal and endocrine disorders, the people said, asking not to be identified because the plans are private. While NPS is high on Shire’s takeover list, other targets are also being considered, the people said.
