Deutsche Lufthansa AG expects to cancel half its flights during a 36-hour pilot strike that begins at noon today and runs through midnight tomorrow, extending a dispute that has crippled the airline for months.

The strike by the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots union will affect only short- and medium-haul routes today and from tomorrow will also include overseas, long-haul flights, with 150,000 passengers affected in total, the German airline said. Some 1,350 of 2,800 flights will be canceled over the two days.
