Snow Ends in the Buffalo Area as Flood Risk Rises

Lake-effect snow that killed 13 people and halted travel across western New York may reach 7 feet before stopping today, when temperatures will rise along with the risk of flooding.

As much as six feet of water may spill into low areas as temperatures increase quickly through the weekend, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said at a news conference today. Houses in the Buffalo area have been buried to the eaves and cars entombed on highways. Schools closed and mail delivery ground to a halt.
