Gas Gains as Coldest Blast Since Last Winter Hits U.S.

Natural gas futures jumped by the most in nine months as a blast of frigid air across the U.S. stokes demand for the heating fuel.

Prices gained 8 percent, the biggest one-day gain since Feb. 19, after a midday government weather model turned colder in the South and East for Nov. 27 through Dec. 1, said Frontier Weather Inc. Below-normal temperatures are sweeping the lower 48 states this week. Chicago’s high will be 18 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 8 Celsius) tomorrow, 29 below normal, AccuWeather Inc. said on its website.
