Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the number of French nationals joining Islamic militant groups in Syria and Iraq has almost doubled since the start of the year.

“There is a considerable increase in the number of departures” from French territory, he said in a Europe 1 radio interview today. An 82 percent rise this year has put about 375 French citizens “in the theater of operations in Syria and Iraq.”
