BHP Abandons Efforts to Sell Australian Nickel Unit

BHP Billiton Ltd. abandoned attempts to sell its Australian nickel unit, with the world’s biggest mining company saying it failed to receive acceptable offers.
Nickel West will remain a part of the BHP Billiton portfolio, indicating it’s unlikely to be part of the spinoff of much of its smaller mining assets announced in August, Melbourne-based BHP said today in a statement.
