FIFA Apologizes for Map Error Putting Crimea in Russia

Soccer’s governing body FIFA apologized after organizers of the 2018 World Cup in Russia displayed a map that showed Crimea as part of the host country.

Russia annexed the Black Sea peninsula in March after the ouster of Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine’s former pro-Moscow president, in an uprising. The takeover prompted the U.S. and the European Union to impose sanctions on Russian individuals and companies.
