Tunisians Vote for First Permanent Assembly Since Revolt

Tunisians cast ballots for a new parliament yesterday, a milestone in the North African nation’s planned transition to democracy after the ouster of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali more than three years ago.
Long lines formed at polling stations in the capital, Tunis, amid concerns of violence by Islamist insurgents who oppose the push for democracy in the birthplace of the Arab Spring uprisings. Tunisia’s state-run news agency reported turnout of about 60 percent, citing early information from the election commission.
