Airlines Rally as American, United Beat Profit Estimates

U.S. airline stocks rose, extending their biggest rally in three years, as American Airlines and United Airlines beat quarterly profit estimates with a boost from higher fares and falling fuel prices.
Southwest Airlines Co. and Alaska Air Group Inc. also exceeded analysts’ projections, capping off third-quarter earnings releases for the industry’s biggest companies. Five of the six largest U.S. carriers topped estimates, with JetBlue Airways Corp. the lone holdout among the group.
