Chancellor Angela Merkel said she’s determined to enact gender quotas for German boardrooms after a leader of her party said the measure would harm companies as the economic outlook worsens.

“Executive positions are desirable because they mean power and power is, after all, a good thing,” Merkel told a group of about 100 German female executives and entrepreneurs at the chancellery in Berlin today. “We will introduce the quota and life will go on peacefully.”
