Cameron Program Said to Ease Clegg Way to Renew Coalition

David Cameron’s pledges of unfunded tax cuts, a repeal of human-rights laws and tighter immigration rules wowed his Conservative Party last week. For different reasons, they also delighted his Liberal Democrat coalition partners.

To Liberal Democrats, much of what Cameron’s party set out is anathema. Still, aides to Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg said that far from being an obstacle to another coalition, the Tory pledges should be seen as an opening gambit for talks that might follow next May’s election -- one that polls suggest will end inconclusively and require another coalition.
