Qatar Airways Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Akbar al Baker said he pities his counterpart at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, who has endured repeat strikes that he claims are the reason why the airline is struggling to compete.

“I feel sorry for him,” Al Baker, speaking in Hamburg yesterday where he took delivery of an Airbus A380, said of Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, whom he called a “very good friend of mine.” “I’m sure he envies me very much, because we don’t have to take the crap of the unions.”
