The U.S. expanded its air offensive in Iraq by conducting strikes for the first time in the western part of the country to protect the Haditha Dam.
The new offensive, which began yesterday and continued today using fighters and bombers, follows weeks of strikes around the Mosul Dam, which Islamic State militants had seized before ceding the territory to Iraqi and Kurdish forces.
