China Calls for Local Planning on Geothermal Energy Use

China, the world’s biggest carbon emitter, asked local authorities to draft plans for geothermal energy use by 2020 and submit them by the end of this year.

The nation wants to first develop geothermal power in areas with high-temperature resources and then promote medium-temperature geothermal and hot, dry-rock power after that, according to a statement on the website of the National Energy Administration.
