Water Use Fell 23% Since March as LA Reports Driest 2-Year Total

The California unit of the largest publicly traded water company in the U.S. said customers in the Sacramento area have cut usage by 23 percent since March compared with the same period in 2012 and 2013.

American Water Works Co.’s California subsidiary, which provides water and wastewater services to about 600,000 people, said in a statement that water use normally triples in the summer yet with the state’s severe drought continuing, clients’ voluntary conservation measures reduced use by almost a quarter.
