House Panel to Probe GM Handling of Recall Over Switches

A House panel will investigate the response of General Motors Co. and U.S. regulators to consumer complaints about ignition-switch failures that led to the recall of 1.6 million vehicles and are linked to at least 13 deaths.
Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee today asked GM Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra for documents and field reports related to the recall. Committee Chairman Fred Upton, a Michigan Republican, said yesterday that a hearing will be held in the coming weeks to explore whether GM or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration missed “something that could have flagged these problems sooner.”
