Virginia Officials Set to Appeal Gay-Marriage Ruling

Virginia’s registrar of vital records and a local clerk of courts said they’ll appeal a Feb. 13 ruling that found the state’s ban on gay marriage unconstitutional.

An appeal is needed to achieve “final clarification” of the issue, George Schaefer, clerk of Norfolk Circuit Court, said in a statement after filing a notice of appeal in federal court in Norfolk, Virginia.
