Kenyan central bank Governor Njuguna Ndung’u may be suspended should he be charged with abuse of office and will be unable to resume his post until the case is settled, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission said.
The country’s Director of Public Prosecutions said today it recommended that Ndung’u be prosecuted over a tender for security software that the commission alleges led to the loss of more than 400 million shillings ($4.6 million) of public funds. Ndung’u was unavailable for comment today and will be back in the office tomorrow, central bank spokesman Samson Burgei said in an e-mailed response to questions.
