U.K. construction expanded at the fastest pace since August 2007 last month as residential activity led a pickup in all areas of building.
An index of activity rose to 64.6 from 62.1 in December, Markit Economics said today in London. The median forecast of 19 economists was for a decline to 61.5. The reading is the strongest since the month before the bank run on Northern Rock Plc, that signaled the onset of the financial crisis in Britain. The pickup in homebuilding was the fastest since November 2003, the data showed.
