Spain’s standard electricity rate may climb at least 10.5 percent on Jan. 1 after a new benchmark price for power was set in an auction, according to data obtained by Bloomberg News today.

The quarterly auction today produced an overall power price increase of 25.6 percent for the first quarter of 2014, the document showed. That could translate into 10.5 percent higher tariffs for the basic rate charged to consumers. In addition, the average bill may rise further through an increase in the so-called access fees, Industry Minister Jose Manuel Soria said today.
