Dec. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Before Ukrainian President ViktorYanukovych signed a deal to bail out our country’s economy thisweek, there was excitement among Western officials and analystsabout the way some businessmen who have bankrolled thepresident’s rise to power appeared to be distancing themselvesfrom him.
Many Ukrainians weren’t fooled. The country’s so-calledoligarchs still supported Yanukovych. And now they will be primebeneficiaries of the $15 billion of bail-out loans and lowernatural gas prices that he secured from Russian PresidentVladimir Putin.
