Egypt’s security forces fired water cannon to disperse two protests defying a new law that restricts demonstrations.

Police were seeking to disperse dozens of people holding a rally in downtown Cairo today to commemorate the death of a protester at the hands of police a year ago, after the demonstrators ignored verbal warnings, Hany Girgis, head of Cairo’s Qasr El-Nil police station, said by phone today.
