Global warming has slowed since 1998 as pollution reached a record and the threat of rising oceans increased, a United Nations panel said in a report that hardened attitudes on both sides of the climate debate.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said the temperature has been increasing at less than half the longer-term average since 1951. It also concluded for the first time that most fossil fuel reserves will need to remain in the ground if the world is to have any hope of avoiding a catastrophic increase in storms and sea levels.
