Natural gas futures dropped for a fifth day in New York, reaching the lowest price in more than five months, on speculation that mild August weather will cut demand from power plants.

Gas fell 2.1 percent amid forecasts for below-normal temperatures from the East Coast to the Great Plains from Aug. 12 through Aug. 21, according to MDA Weather Services in Gaithersburg, Maryland. U.S. inventory gains exceeded five-year averages in seven of the past nine weekly government reports.
