July 1 (Bloomberg) -- It’s a testament to U.S. Secretary ofState John Kerry’s grit, determination and self-assurance thathe refuses to give up in his quest to bring Israelis andPalestinians back to the negotiating table. But I wish that hewould, during the long slog toward renewed talks, ask himselfone question: Why didn’t his predecessor, Hillary Clinton, applyherself to the problem in the same manner?

Certainly, Clinton possesses the same qualities offortitude and indefatigability. No one is more tenacious thanClinton when she identifies a goal worth pursuing. So why didshe resolutely avoid this issue? The answer is simple: She sawno reasonable chance for success, even success modestly defined.
