Dec. 18 (Bloomberg) -- The rise of the Second Amendment asa serious obstacle to U.S. gun control legislation isastonishingly recent.
Its rise is a tribute less to the vision of the FoundingFathers than to the skill, money and power of the contemporarygun-rights movement, which has not only exerted disproportionateinfluence on Congress, but also helped transform the landscapeof constitutional argument. We should be able to have a seriousnational discussion uninhibited by wild and unsupportable claimsabout the meaning of the Constitution.
