Dec. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkelhas at last opened the door to the possibility of writing offGreek debts, but only several years from now. As they decide onthe right thing to do, Germans should take a close look at theirown history.
As Merkel indicated in her Dec. 2 interview with Bild, aGerman tabloid, for the country to trigger the unraveling of theeuro area by letting Greece default would damage its owneconomic and political interests. The economies of tradingpartners in Europe might collapse, costing Germany far more thanthe Greek debt forgiveness it refused.
