JX Energy Unit to End Solar Silicon Wafer Output as Demand Drops

JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp. said it will end production of silicon wafers at a unit in December amid sagging demand for solar products.

The company will continue sales of solar power generation systems for homes and power stations, Tokyo-based JX Nippon said today in a statement.

Silicon wafers are used to convert the sun’s energy into electricity.
