‘The Expendables 2’ Is Top Film With Sales of $28.6 Million

“The Expendables 2,” Sylvester Stallone’s R-rated action sequel to the 2010 hit, led the U.S. and Canadian box office with sales of $28.6 million, topping three other new films this past weekend.

The animated film “ParaNorman,” from Comcast Corp.’s Focus Features and Laika Entertainment, took in $14.1 million to place third, Hollywood.com Box-Office said today in an e-mailed statement. Sony Corp.’s “Sparkle,” featuring the late Whitney Houston, opened in fifth place with sales of $11.6 million, and Walt Disney Co.’s “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” collected $10.8 million for seventh.
