July 6 (Bloomberg) -- Myanmar’s conversion to democracy isbreathing new life into a project with a terminally boring name:Greater Mekong Subregion.
This name was bestowed on an investment bloc that the AsianDevelopment Bank put together in 1992. It was made up ofCambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China’s YunnanProvince. Talk about odd bedfellows. It mixes constitutionalmonarchies, immature multiparty democracies, communist statesand military regimes suddenly mulling elections with one thingin common -- a waterway that’s central to the livelihood of 330million people.
